Rio de Janeiro experienced its second-hottest day of the summer on Thursday morning (Jan. 11), with temperatures reaching 53.4°C, as reported by local authorities.
The hottest day of the summer remains December 25, Christmas Day, when temperatures soared to 55°C.

Apparent temperature is a measure that combines air temperature and relative humidity to represent what the temperature feels like to the human body. It takes into account the cooling effect of wind on the body and the rate at which sweat evaporates, both of which affect how the human body perceives the temperature.
Given the forecast for continued intense heat, city authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and use sunscreen.
