Brazil celebrates 202 years of independence with parade on September 7
On September 7, Brazil celebrates 202 years of independence from Portugal. This Saturday, a national holiday, will feature the traditional civic-military parade in Brasília’s Esplanade of Ministries, with an expected attendance of 30,000 people.
Tributes
This year's September 7 celebrations are organized around three key themes. One focuses on the strategic significance of Brazil hosting the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro this November. During the parade, the 21 flags of the G20 countries and regional blocs will be displayed. Brazil holds currently the presidency of the G20, a group of the world's 19 largest economies, the European Union, and the African Union.
The parade will also pay tribute to the efforts to support Rio Grande do Sul, with the participation of professionals who assisted during the floods that affected the state in May.
The third axis will emphasize the resumption of the broad protection of the population, especially children, through vaccination campaigns and the expansion of health care services, with the revival of the Mais Médicos (More Doctors) program.
The civic-military parade will feature students from public schools in the Federal District, athletes who represented Brazil at the Paris Olympics, and representatives of the Armed Forces. Highlights include performances by the Army Police Battalion's Human Pyramid and the Smoke Squadron.
