Bolsonaro’s son gets US nod to head embassy
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry reported it has received US approval to name Congress member Eduardo Bolsonaro to be Brazil’s ambassador in Washington.
“The Ministry of Foreign Relations is glad to announce that the US government has granted agrément to Eduardo Bolsonaro as extraordinary ambassador and plenipotentiary to Brazil in that country. Under the Brazilian constitution, this nomination is still to be submitted to the Senate for consideration,” the note issued by the ministry reads.
Today (Aug 9), President Jair Bolsonaro told journalists outside the Alvorada presidencial residence he was happy with the nod from the US. “I’m very happy and I’m sure these friendship and commercial ties with the US will be potentialized with Eduardo [in the embassy].”
The president also mentioned he welcomed the written response written by President Donald Trump himself. “The document I received had a personal language. It was personal, written in Trump’s own hand. If he allows it, [adviser] Filipe Martins will make contact, and then I’ll show it to you,” the president said.
