Lula condemns attack on Donald Trump: "unacceptable"
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva condemned the attack on former US President and presidential candidate Donald Trump, calling the assassination attempt on Saturday (Jul. 13) "unacceptable."
"The attack on former President Donald Trump must be strongly condemned by all defenders of democracy and political dialogue. What we have witnessed today is unacceptable," wrote the president on social media.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian government also condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump.
"By strongly condemning the attack and wishing the former president a speedy recovery, Brazil reaffirms that any form of political violence in democratic societies is unacceptable and is closely monitoring the full investigation of the incident," stated the Brazilian government.
On Saturday, Trump was escorted off the stage by security during a rally in Pennsylvania after being shot in the ear. The shooter, Thomas Crooks, 20, was shot by police officers and died at the scene. One person in the audience was killed, and two others were seriously injured.
