The task force of Operation Car Wash, a probe into corruption in Brazil, returned $112 million to state-controlled oil giant Petrobras on Thursday (Jul 25). The amount comes from payments linked to leniency deals with companies that confessed to participate in funds siphoned off Petrobras.

Petrobras is reported to have received $790 million restored from the Federal Prosecution Service in plea bargain and leniency deals and voluntary reports on money embezzled.

The first phase of Operation Car Wash took place on March 17, 2014. Thus far, 61 stages have been carried out. According to the latest figures, the operation led to 244 convictions of 159 individuals. Sentences add up to over 2 thousand years in jail for numerous crimes, among them money laundering, bribery, and corruption.
