PMDB-PT coalition remains for upcoming elections
During a national convention on Tuesday (Jun 10) the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (“PMDB”) approved the continuation of the alliance with the Workers’ Party (“PT”) for the presidential election to be held next October.
Current Vice-President of the Republic Michel Temer was also approved as running mate of current President Dilma Rousseff.
The coalition with PT and the appointment of Temer as vice-president received 398 votes (69.7%) from PMDB’s voting members. Votes opposing the partnership totaled 275 (30.3%).
“I’d like to tell all those present at the convention that there are no winners or losers. We must seek unity within PMDB in order to win the elections and choose the largest number of deputies, senators and governors in the upcoming October elections,” the vice-president told the party members attending the convention.
After the result was announced, Rousseff went to the Federal Senate, where the convention was taking place, and thanked PMDB for the trust reposed in the alliance with her party, PT.
