New survey shows Rousseff with 38% of vote support, Silva with 25%
An opinion poll released Thursday (Sep 25) shows candidate Dilma Rousseff (Workers' Party, PT) leading the presidential race with 38% of vote support. Opposition candidate Marina Silva (Brazilian Socialist Party, PSB) is reported with 25%, followed by Aécio Neves (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB), with 17%.
The survey was commissioned by weekly magazine Carta Capital and conducted by the Vox Populi Institute.
Vox Populi simulated two different scenarios for a possible second-round runoff. In a dispute between Marina Silva and Dilma Rousseff, the technical tie remains. The incumbent was observed to have 41% of support, and raised to 42%. Marina Silva, in turn, went from 42% to 41%.
If Rousseff and Neves were to face one another, the candidate from PT would win with 45% of voting intentions, against her rival's 37%. In the previous study, Rousseff would also be victorious, with 44% versus 36%.
Two thousand interviews were held in 147 cities. The survey was conducted on Tuesday (23) and Wednesday (24). The margin of error is plus and minus 2,2 percentage points.
In the previous study, from September 10, Rousseff was reported to have 36% of the voting intentions, Marina Silva 28%, and Aécio Neves 15%.
