“Everyone has the right to criticize,” says Rousseff on Lula's statement
President Dilma Rousseff commented Tuesday (Jun 23) on the criticism made by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva against the PT. “Everyone has the right to criticize, especially President Lula, who's bitterly criticized by you,” the president told journalist during an event in Rio de Janeiro.
She was referring to a speech delivered by the former president on Monday (Jun 22) during the seminar New Challenges of Democracy, held by Instituto Lula, in which he said that the PT needs a new utopia. While reminding those present that the political party was founded in an attempt to voice the concerns of workers, Lula questioned the current situation: “Do we want to save our hide, save our positions, or do we want to save our project?” He continued, “Today, all we think about is our position, a chair; all we think about is being elected.” In the former head of state's view, the PT is in urgent need to resume its dialogue with young people, so they may take charge, since many of the current members have grown “tired.” “I think we need to create a new project of organization for the political parties in our country,” he argued.
Dilma Rousseff spoke to journalists right after announcing the appointment of executive Luiza Trajano for the Brazilian Public Olympic Council, in place of former Central Bank head Henrique Meirelles.
