Supreme Court extends probe on Congress members for 60 days
Supreme Court Justice Teori Zavascki awarded Monday (June 29) a 60-day extension of the probe into 35 congress members implicated in the kickback scandal investigated as part of the Federal Police Operation Car Wash. Zavascki has also authorized the proceedings requested by the Prosecutor-General's Office.
The investigations were launched in March by the Supreme Court based on plea bargain statements given by currency dealer Alberto Youssef and the former Petrobras Downstream director, Paulo Roberto Costa, the main whistle-blowers in the case.
Meanwhile, federal judge Sérgio Moro authorized the ongoing Congressional Committee of Investigation on Petrobras to hear former Petrobras head of Services Renato Duque and former Workers' Party treasurer João Vaccari Neto in a confrontation statement against the testimonies of whistle-blowers Pedro Barusco, also a former Petrobras executive, and Youssef.
