Jurist Miguel Reale Júnior and lawyer Maria Lúcia Bicudo, daughter of former deputy and one of PT's founders Hélio Bicudo, submitted to the Chamber of Deputies on Thursday (Sep. 17) an addition to the request for President Dilma Rousseff's impeachment, filed on September 10. Eduardo Cunha, speaker of the lower house, had stipulated that Bicudo make all necessary formal adjustments, like notarized signatures, by September 23. The request is the 13st of its kind. Five others have been shelved.

As Reale Júnior signed the request and added arguments, the delivery turned into a joint action. “There are quite serious problems regarding decrees enacted with no permission from the Chamber [of Deputies], connected with additional credits,” said Reale, who was Justice Minister during former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso's administration.

Upon joining the move, Maria Lúcia Bicudo argued that the president's impeachment is the first step towards rebuilding the country's values. “We need to leave the corruption and the lies aside and walk towards what's new. We must pave the way for the young people, so that Brazil can be dignified and righteous,” she stated.

The document was handed over to Cunha also in the presence of opposition party leaders, among whom Carlos Sampaio (PSDB), Mendonça Filho (Democrats), and Paulinho da Força (Solidarity).

The presidential palace said no comment will be made on the matter.
