The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) confirmed Thursday (Dec. 10) that the 2016 local election will use electronic voting machines.

On November 3, the court had announced they could not afford to provide the machines for use in 2016 because of a $113 million cut from their budget that would force them to turn back to the traditional paper ballots.

Now, the court reported that the Ministry of Planning amended its forecast for government revenue after Congress passed a bill that changed the fiscal target for 2015, making an additional $70 million available to the Electoral Court. This budget recovery will help cover costs with the electronic voting system.
