Michel Temer: Rousseff's government has to listen to executives

Vice-President Michel Temer
Vice-President Michel Temer told President Dilma Rousseff that the government should listen to executives more and try to implement their viable proposals. They met Wednesday (Jan. 20) for more than one hour for the first time this year at Palácio do Planalto, the presidential office.
One of the topics they have discussed was to reactivate the Economic and Social Development Council. Temer said he might attend the Council's meeting scheduled for next week.
Formed by executives, ministers, and other representatives of the civil society, the Council advises the President of the Republic in order to formulate specific policies and guidelines, and also to consider proposals for public policies, structural reforms, and economic and social development overhals submitted by the presidency.
Rousseff and Temer also discussed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, released yesterday, projecting a sharp drop for the Brazilian economy this year. Their forecast for the GDP's (gross domestic product) contraction went from -1% to -3.5%. According to the IMF, there will be an economic downturn for the second consecutive year.
In 2015, according to the IMF, there was a decrease of 3.8%. In 2017, stability is forecast, with estimates of zero growth for GDP. In October last year, the IMF projected a growth of 2.3% for the following year.
Chief of Staff Jaques Wagner and Minister of Secretariat for the Government Ricardo Berzoini also attended the meeting.
