Report recommends Rousseff's impeachment
Deputy Jovair Arantes, rapporteur in the impeachment case, has granted the request to advance with the proceedings aimed at removing President Dilma Rousseff for impeachable offenses. The request was submitted by lawyers Miguel Reale Junior, Janaina Paschoal, and Hélio Bicudo.
At the end of his report, read out loud in the session held by the lower house committee on the case, the lawmaker states that the request “fulfills all legal and political conditions concerning its admissibility.” Arantes goes on to affirm that, for the analysis of the admissibility of the request for impeachment, the actions, witnesses' testimonies, and the evidence brought to the committee, “in connection with the analysis of the matter, it is is worth noting, whether the charges are sustained or unsustained,” will not be taken into consideration,
However, even without having pondered on the crux of the allegations, the rapporteur argued that there are “other extremely serious issues,” and also that “the magnitude and the reach of the violations committed by the president, in grave violation of her official duties and in contravention of the great trust placed on her, justifies the opening of the exceptional mechanism for the presidential impeachment.”
As outlined in its schedule, the panel is to convene again next Friday (Apr. 8) to discuss Arantes's report. The vote on the document is slated for Monday (11), starting at 5 pm.
