On the eve of the vote on her impeachment in the Chamber of Deputies, President Dilma Rousseff will not attend the "Social Movements for Democracy" event, staged outside a gymnasium in Brasília this Saturday (Apr. 16). According to the Communications Secretariat of the Presidency, the president chose to receive congressional leaders throughout the day.

The event in the central area of Brasília assembles movements against impeachment—including the Central Workers' Union, the Landless Rural Workers' Movement, the National Students' Union and the Union of Brazil's Workers—and was also attended by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who already spoke at the event.

Protesters gather under a white tent set up outside the gym, in the parking lot, the same place where protesters from the Frente Brasil Popular movement, against the president's ouster, are camped.
