With the Senate vote to put President Dilma Rousseff on impeachment trial on Thursday (May 12), Vice-President Michel Temer will take over the presidency of Brazil until the outcome of the case. Rousseff will be suspended from office for up to 180 days while the Senate proceeds to trial and should produce a new report to be put to vote.

Rousseff should be notified of her suspension by Vicentinho Alves, First Secretary of the Senate, later this Thursday (12). Upon Rousseff's notification, Temer will also be notified of his induction.

A ceremony to sign the notification is slated at the presidential office, where Rousseff will welcome former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, ministers, officials, and allies. She will also make a statement to the press and a video to be posted on social media. During her suspension, Rousseff will retain the official president's residence at Palácio da Alvorada.
