Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo today (Jul 26) confirmed Brazil has submitted a consultation paper to the US government regarding naming Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro Brazil’s ambassador to the US.

Son of President Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Bolsonaro is chair of the lower house Committee for Foreign Relations.

“The agrément has been requested and we are expecting a response from the US. It is part of diplomatic protocol; it has its own channels. I am convinced this agrément will be granted by the US government and that Eduardo Bolsonaro will be a great ambassador,” Araújo said.

The confirmation was made during a press conference after a meeting with foreign ministers from Brics nations, which took place at the Itamaraty palace in Rio de Janeiro this morning (Jul 26).

If the move is approved by the US, the appointment must be authorized by the Brazilian Senate.
