New Party announces Felipe d’Avila’s presidential candidacy

The New Party (Novo) approved last Saturday (Jul 30) in São Paulo the presidential candidacy of political scientist Felipe d’Avila at the party's convention.
His running mate is federal representative Tiago Mitraud (Novo), head of the Parliamentary Front for Administrative Reform. The New Party's national convention took place at the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil building, in the capital São Paulo.
In his speech, d’Avila advocated the country’s unity and respect for diversity. “[The] better Brazil starts with a Brazil for everyone, not just for its tribe, for its party, but for everyone. And that starts with respecting the diversity of ideas, of races, this is the strength of this country,” he pointed out.
“A divided country does not grow, it does not improve life. A divided country will remain poor, unequal, and unfair. We don't want this [kind of] Brazil. The Brazil of hope starts with something very important, our ability, our union to break several tribes that are sabotaging hope,” he added.
Felipe d’Avila was born in São Paulo. He is a political scientist with a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, and he is the coordinator of the Unidos Pelo Brasil Movement. In 2008, he founded the Center for Public Leadership, a non-profit organization dedicated to training political leaders. As a writer, he has published ten books. This is the first time he is running for a presidential chair.
