WHO: Brazil donation to Covax Facility to help end pandemic sooner
World Health Organization (WHO) Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Thursday (Dec. 23) expressed his gratitude over Brazil’s donation of 10 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 to the Covax Facility consortium. The measure, Adhanom wrote on Twitter, “will accelerate an end to the pandemic.”
Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga responded to Adhanom’s post saying that security against COVID-19 will only be attained after everyone is safe.
“Brazil is very pleased to contribute to the Covax Facility, joining the global vaccination efforts against COVID-19. We’ll only be safe when everyone’s safe,” he said.

The move had been announced Monday (20) by Queiroga. On the occasion, the minister stated that, in addition to the initial 10 million doses, another 20 million doses could be donated later on, adding up to at least 30 million shots.
Benefited nations must express interest in the donation and grant authorization in order to receive it from Brazil.
