The municipality started a new release of wolbitos—mosquitoes infected with the Wolbachia bacteria. The microorganisms are used to combat arboviruses such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, as they prevent the viruses that cause these diseases from developing inside their main carrier.
"A single vaccine will provide lifelong protection against various types of diseases and cancers caused by HPV," stated Health Minister Nísia Trindade.
The results indicate that Brazilian children’s height increased by an average of 1cm between 2001 and 2014. The prevalence of overweight and obesity also surged considerably—around 3%.
Of the total of 2,010,896 probable cases, 682 have resulted in death—a figure that could rise as 1,042 deaths are still under investigation.
The chosen location for the memorial, Health Minister Nísia Trindade said, is the ministry’s Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro. The disease is reported to have killed 710 thousand Brazilians.
