The inoculation was developed by Butantan Institute, in São Paulo. Tests show it protects against all four serotypes of the virus. The study should end in 2024.
New doses are being produced by the Butantan Institute. The amount ordered by the Ministry of Health—1 million doses—is expected to be delivered in September.
The sending of information was agreed at a meeting on May 25 between the institute and Anvisa, which will now proceed with the evaluation of the request.
In Santa Catarina, the suspected case is a 27-year-old woman, living in Dionísio Cerqueira. The patient had symptoms on May 24 and is awaiting the test results.
There is still not enough evidence to gauge such aspects as severity, transmission, and the effectiveness of existing vaccines, the institute stated.
