This year, Brazilian voters are scheduled to head to the polls on October 6 to elect mayors, vice-mayors, and city councilors in their municipalities.
This is the second time in history the number of black hopefuls exceeds the number of white ones, who total 215,763 this year. The first round of this year’s municipal elections will be held on Oct. 6.
The first round is set for October 6, with a possible second round on October 27 for larger municipalities if no mayoral candidate wins a majority in the first round.
The Electoral Fund was established by Congress in 2017 in response to the Supreme Court's 2015 decision to prohibit campaign financing by private companies.
