The number of Brazilians who identify as indigenous has grown sixfold in the last 30 years. “The main conclusion is that we’ll continue to exist,” said Professor Rosa Colman from the University of Grande Dourados, interviewed by Agência Brasil.
The monitoring was carried out with the help of satellite images from Imazon. The reduction observed in 2023 was said to have “surpassed the overall drop in deforestation,” which was down 62% between 2022 and 2023.
Some 15 thousand kits will be distributed by the end of March. The initiative comes as part of Operation Catrimani, of the Armed Forces.
