A piece of legislation entitled Law of Public Civil Suit has been ammended and now includes the protection of the honor and dignity of racial, ethnical and religious groups. The new text was approved by President Dilma Rousseff on Friday (Apr. 25).

By resorting to a public civil suit, as set out in the Constitution, the Public Prosecution Office and other government agencies may ensure the enforcement of a range of collective and individual rights.

The public civil action is a legal device used in cases of damages to the environment, customers, property as well as the protection of rights connected with arts, aesthetics, history, tourism, geography, urbanism, economy, and all other rights, individual or collective.
