Brazilian mission to China yields $47.9 million in new business
The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX) reported Thursday (May 14) that a mission of Brazilian food and beverage executives to China last week resulted in $47.96 million worth of new business. The figure includes both deals closed during the visit and those expected to be completed in the upcoming 12 months.
The amount exceeded the $18 million target originally set by the agency for the mission, which included business meetings in Guangzhou and product exhibits at a food, beverage, and hospitality trade show in Shanghai.
Next week, on the sidelines of an official visit from Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang along with 150 executives to Brazil on May 18-20, other bilateral business rounds will take place. Chinese business leaders will meet representatives from Brazil's private sector for the China-Brazil Business Summit at the Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) in Brasília.
Although China's traditionally high growth rates have been slowing down, the country still topped the ranking of foreign markets for Brazilian products in the first quarter of 2015, and is considered a strategic business partner.
