Rousseff meets with ministers to discuss budget
President Dilma Rousseff had a meeting Sunday (May 17) with the ministers of Finance, Joaquim Levy, and Planning, Nelson Barbosa, and the Chief of Staff, Aloizio Mercadante, to discuss the budget cuts and the execution of the fiscal adjustment plan.
The government has until May 20 to announce how much will be cut from the approved budget and which areas will be impacted. The cut is a measure to put the government accounts back on track so that growth can pick up again in 2016.
The cut amount is expected to range somewhere in between $20-$27 billion – the announcement of the official amount must take place within 30 days of the presidential sanction of the budget approved by the National Congress. The curtailment period runs until the end of the year.
