Car production down 18.5% in first semester
Brazil's automotive industry produced 1,276,638 cars in the first semester of 2015—down 18.5% from the same period last year, 1,566,049. The reduction stands at 14.8% June on June, with 184,015 units this year against 2014's 215,934. Comparing June and May (210,386), the drop reaches 12.5%. Data were taken from a report released today (Jul 6) by the National Association for Auto Manufacturers, Anfavea.
As for sales, Anfavea reported a decline of 0.1% in June (212,524 units) from May (212,696). Compared to June last year, when 263,564 were sold, the fall is seen at 19.4%. So far in the year, sales have amounted to 1,318,949 units, 20.7% lower than its 2014 counterpart.
Anfavea President Luiz Moan noted that cash sales for natural persons in June accounted for 40.4% of the total, against a 38.1% observed in June last year.
The default rate (payments over 90 days overdue) reached 3.9% for both new and second-hand vehicles. Last year, the percentage was 4.99%.
Auto exports totaled 48,068 units in June, up 96.8% from the 24,425 units commercialized in the year-earlier month. Compared to May, the rise stands at 17.9%, and 16.6% in the year-to-date growth. We've managed to collect positive figures, the head of Anfavea remarked.
Exports faced a decline of 19.7% from May, and a surge of 20.1% from June last year. “The fall in figures was driven by a change in the mix of products exported,” Moan said.
