In August, up to last Friday (Aug. 28), Brazil's inflow of dollars surpassed its outflow by $2.642 billion. Thus, the amount of US currency that entered the country between January and August rose to $9.806 billion. Last year, for the same period, the number reported was much lower: $106 million. These figures were announced Wednesday (Sep. 2) by the Central Bank.
Last month, the country's financial flow—investments in bonds, profit remittances, dividends abroad, direct investment in the country, among other transactions—posted a positive $1.157 billion. The commercial flow—exchange transactions associated with exports and imports—recorded a total of $1.484 billion for the period.
For the year-to-date, the commercial flow stood at $15.737 billion, but the cash flow had a negative balance of $5.930 billion. Thus, the surplus recorded $9.806 billion.
