Petrobras strike brings oil production down by 8.5%
Brazil's oil production dropped 8.5% Tuesday (Nov. 3), Petrobras reported. This percentage is equivalent to a reduction of 178,000 barrels in the company's daily output. According to Petrobras, the result shows that the oil workers' strike that began Sunday (1st) is impacting its operation.
In a note released Wednesday (4), Petrobras said it was taking steps to mitigate the impact of the stoppage, and expected the measures would result in a smaller loss by the end of Wednesday—140,000 barrels of oil, or 6.5% of the daily production.
The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) said it monitors the fuel market on an ongoing basis and has not detected any shortages as a result of the strike at this point. It assured that it will “consider further measures” in case of a shortage.
In the Campos Basin, the number of offshore units on strike rose to 47, according to the Federation of Oil Workers (FUP). Workers on the P-16 rig and the PCP-2 platform have joined the strike. The Cabiúnas Terminal in Macaé, north of Rio de Janeiro state, has also been affected. The union further reported that 28 platforms and three service and maintenance units (SMU) have completely suspended their activities. Seven locations are only operating partially, and in another nine, the operations are being conducted by contingent staff deployed by Petrobras.
