Brazil's Finance Minister Nelson Barbosa, will be talking about investment opportunities in Brazil and the Brazilian economy at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week. He will be the only top-rank representative of the Brazilian government at the annual meeting that discusses the global economy.

Barbosa will have a closed-door meeting with executives at the Business Interaction Group on Brazil on Thursday (Jan. 21), at a room for 40 speakers and more than 90 attendees (there are over 50 in the waiting list). Also on Thursday, the minister will attend an open webcast session on reviving the world economy.

On Wednesday (20), the Finance Minister will be at a lunch hosted by Brazil's Itaú bank on the outlook for Latin America in 2016. About 60 senior executives and the Governor of Argentina's Central Bank, Federico Sturzenegger, will attend.

On Friday (22), Barbosa will be a panellist at a meeting of finance ministers of Latin American countries themed “The road to socio-economic resilience.”

He will also have bilateral meetings throughout the event with senior executives and US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Luis Alberto Moreno; and Chile Finance Minister Rodrigo Valdés.

The World Economic Forum brings together business and government leaders from around the world, scholars, journalists, and civil society representatives to discuss challenges to global development and how to improve the business environment. This year's theme will be the Fourth Industrial Revolution. According to organizers, more than 1,500 business leaders and about a thousand representatives from international organizations will discuss the impact of innovation and technology on industry and society.

Minister Barbosa will go to Davos alongside National Development Bank (BNDES) President Luciano Coutinho and two representatives of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade—Innovation Secretary Marcos Vinícius de Souza and the co-chair of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil), David Barioni.

Since taking office in 2011, President Dilma Rousseff has only been at the Davos forum once in 2014.
