During the first day of negotiations after Carnival, the dollar rose and closed out Wednesday (Feb. 10) at R$ 3.936, up 0.65%. Despite the hike, the US currency is showing a 0.3% drop year to date.
The São Paulo Stock Exchange finished the day with a slight 0.53% reduction, at 40,377 points, mostly due to state-run oil giant Petrobras's shares, the most negotiated securities, which were significantly depreciated.
As a result of Carnival holidays, the Brazilian market remained closed on both Monday (8) and Tuesday (9).
