Gov’t responds to Trump remarks on Brazil–US trade
The Brazilian government is always open to dialog and the willing to seek solutions to reduce obstacles to the commercial flow with the US, Ambassador Ronaldo Costa, secretary-general for economic and financial affairs with Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, said today (Oct. 1).
“US companies have played an active role in the process of national development, in the broader scope of the constructive economic relations between the two countries,” he said.
In the statement, the ambassador adds that the bilateral trade is founded on the commitments made by Brazil and the US before the World Trade Organization (WTO) and has comprised a number of surpluses on the US side.
Yesterday (Oct. 1), US President Donald Trump criticized Brazil–US commercial relations. During a press conference on the new trade deal between the US, Canada, and Mexico (the new Nafta), signed Sunday (Sep. 30), Trump describe the trade between the US and Brazil as unjust for US firms.
