Purchases with credit, debit and prepaid cards may have exceeded BRL 28 billion on Black Friday this year in Brazil, an increase of approximately 22% compared to 2020. The data was collected between the 25th and 26th of November, by the Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Services Companies (Abecs).

The use of cards on the internet, applications and other types of purchases away from home increased by around 30% in the period. New consumer trends gained evidence in the pandemic, with strong stimulus to online sales. Non-face-to-face payments currently represent around 35% of all credit card expenses.

Among the most sought after items on Black Friday this year are food, which represented approximately 20% of expenses, in addition to hygiene and beauty products. Purchases of electronics products ended up in the background this year.
