Handling in ports grows 5.5% from January to October

The national port sector, which includes public and private ports, handled one billion tonnes from January to October 2021, according to data released today (13), in Brasília, by the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq). The number represented a 5.5% growth compared to the same period in 2020.

Public ports registered 344.5 million tons, an increase of 5.01%, and private facilities 665.8 million tons, an increase of 5.70%. The data is on the dashboard .

The private ports that had the greatest growth were the Waterway Terminal of São Francisco do Sul, in Santa Catarina, (95.3%), the Port Terminal of Pecém, in Ceará, (36.2%), the ports of Itaqui (+ 27.0%), in Rio Grande do Sul, and Itaguaí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro (+21.1%).

Solid bulk handled 589.7 million tons, 58.4% of the total cargo in Brazilian port facilities, and grew 1.8% compared to the same period in 2020. Liquid bulk amounted to 260.8 million tons, 25.8% of the total, an increase of 9.7% over the ten months of last year.

Among the navigations, the long haul, which represents 70.5% of all Brazilian port movement, expanded by 6%. Inland navigation had a 5% drop in the period.
