Brazil has set up a special scheme to receive imported fertilizers in the country`s ports. Ships transporting the product do not have to queue up for unloading, Brazilian Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio de Freitas said today (Mar. 15). The product used by the agribusiness sector is mostly imported from Russia.

“We have already set up a scheme at the ports so that fertilizers can be unloaded as quickly as possible. The Ministries of Agriculture and Infrastructure are working together in order to avoid having a fertilizer ship standing in line,” he pointed out. “We are not going to let producers run out of supplies,” the minister added, after participating in a railway fair in São Paulo.

Fertilizers, especially nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, are widely used by the Brazilian agribusiness sector and are considered essential to crops. 85 percent of the product used in Brazil are imported, mainly from Russia.
