Brazil vehicle production up 11.4% in March
The production of motor vehicles in Brazil increased 11.4 percent in March from February, and stood at 184,800 units. Compared to March 2021, production was down 7.8 percent lower. The accumulated production for the quarter also dropped when compared to the same period last year (-17%). The data can be found in the monthly balance sheet from the country’s national association of car makers Anfavea, published in São Paulo today (Apr. 8).
“Besides the issue with semiconductors, we had negative impacts from the Omicron wave in the first two months of the year, due to its high contagion rate, and a volume of rain and flooding above average, affecting commuting workers and activities at several dealerships,” said Anfavea head Luiz Carlos Moraes.
Sales
The 146.8 thousand vehicles sold in March represent a 10.9 percent surge against March and a 22.5 percent decline from the same month in 2021, when 189.4 thousand units were licensed. Year to date, sales fell 23.2 percent to 405.7 thousand, whereas the total stood at 527.9 thousand in the same time span last year.
The calculation also shows that exports sank 6.2 percent in March from February, as 38.9 thousand units were sold in the foreign market, compared to 41.4 thousand sold in February. In the first quarter, the shipment of 108.1 thousand units represented a 12.8 percent increase in exports. In the first quarter last year, 95.8 thousand vehicles were exported. Compared to March last year, the growth was reported at 5.8 percent.
