Lula's medical team expects his discharge next week
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's medical team announced on Thursday morning (Dec. 12) during a press conference at São Paulo's Sírio-Libanês Hospital that his condition is stable. They also confirmed that the surgery performed around 7 a.m. to prevent further bleeding in his head was successful.
Dr. Roberto Kalil stated that President Lula is expected to be discharged early next week. “He’s awake, eating, and extremely stable. This procedure hasn’t affected the schedule for the coming days at all, and depending on his progress, he should be discharged at the start of the week,” he said.
On Tuesday (10), Lula underwent emergency surgery to drain a hematoma on his head caused by a fall in October. Dr. Roberto Kalil assured that no new bleeding occurred after the drainage and emphasized that today’s procedure was preventive.
The doctors also reported that Lula's neurological examination showed normal results. They recommended “relative rest” in the coming weeks, postponement of physical activities, and avoiding stressful situations.
Only Lula's family members are permitted to visit him at the hospital.
