Micro and small enterprises (MSEs) are strongly promoting the creation of formal jobs in 2022. Out of the 700,590 formal jobs created in Brazil from January to April, 585,560 - equivalent to 76 percent of the total, originated from small businesses.

The conclusion released in a survey carried out by the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae), is based on data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged) of the Economy Ministry. MSEs created 470,520 more jobs than medium and large companies in the first four months of 2022.

In April alone, small companies were responsible for generating 84 percent of formal jobs - 166,800 out of a total of 196,900 jobs created in the previous month. Regarding different sectors of the economy, only small businesses have shown a positive balance in job creation in all segments.

The most prominent sector was Services, with the creation of 93.4 jobs in micro and small companies, out of a total of 117 thousand positions calculated by Caged. According to Sebrae, the reopening of the economy after vaccination against COVID-19 has driven the recovery of this segment.

The second sector that led the creation of jobs in September was Trade, generating 28,420 jobs in micro and small companies, out of a total of 29,260. In third place comes Industry, with 25.26 thousand new jobs.
