Brazilian car makers’ association ANFAVEA announced in São Paulo today (Jul 8) that 178,100 vehicles—among them cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses—were sold in June this year, down 4.8 percent from May. Against June last year, the shrinkage was 2.4 percent.
Exports rose 2.7 percent in June from the previous month, with 47,300 vehicles sold overseas. Compared to June 2021, the surge was 41.2 percent, with 33,500 units exported. In the first half of 2022, sales were up 23 percent, or 246,300 vehicles exported.
As for production, 203,600 units were manufactured in June, down 1.1 percent from May. In the first half of the year, the decline in the output was five percent from the same period last year.
“The crisis assailing semiconductors worldwide has lasted longer than expected in January, due to new factors such as the war in Ukraine and the lockdown in China following the new wave of COVID-19, which affect the distribution of supplies and global logistics,” said ANFAVEA head Márcio de Lima Leite.
