Indebtedness hits nearly 80% of Brazilian families
The proportion of families with debts—overdue or not—stood at 78.9 percent in November this year. The rate is lower than October’s 79.2 percent, but higher than November’s 75.6 percent, in 2021.
The figures were released Tuesday (Dec. 6) and can be found in the Consumer Debt and Indebtedness Survey (PEIC), conducted by the National Confederation of Trade of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
Families in default, i. e. with overdue debts, totaled 30.3 percent in November this year, the same level as the previous month, but up from 26.1 percent in November 2021.
The number of families who will not be able to pay their bills rose to 10.9 percent, up from 10.6 percent in October and 10.1 percent in November last year.
Those who consider themselves highly indebted climbed from 14.8 percent in November 2021 to 17.5 percent in November this year. The average income commitment with debts was 30.4 percent, up from 30.3 percent in October this year and November 2021.
