The defense of social network X has notified Brazil's Supreme Court that it will pay the BRL 8.1 million fine imposed by Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

In the document submitted to the justice on Friday (Feb. 21), the lawyers stated that in order to make the payment, it is necessary to unblock BRL 7.2 million currently held in a Banco do Brasil account. According to X, once this amount is released, the remaining BRL 817.8 thousand will be paid by the company, thereby settling the balance of the debt.

“Considering that BRL 7,282,135.14 remains blocked, X Brasil respectfully asks for the immediate transfer of this amount to its bank account, enabling the payment of the fine imposed in these proceedings, with only the remaining balance to be deposited thereafter,” the defense requested.

On Thursday (Feb. 20), Moraes ordered the payment of the fine in the case in which the social network is accused of failing to remove the profile of blogger Allan dos Santos after he posted false conversations attributed to a journalist.

The account was suspended, but the profile's registration details were not provided to the Supreme Court, as X claimed it does not retain such data. The company appealed the decision, but the appeals were rejected by the justice.

Moraes' decision comes at a time when US President Donald Trump's media group and the social network Rumble, which has been suspended in Brazil, are appealing to US courts, accusing the justice of "censoring" the platforms and suspending user accounts.
