As of this Thursday (Feb. 1), Brazilian workers will start receiving the official minimum wage of BRL 1,412.00, when January salaries will be paid. The amount is 6.97 percent higher than the BRL 1,320.00 wage that was in force from May to December 2023.
According to the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), the increase in the minimum wage will benefit 59.3 million workers and lead to a BRL 69.9 billion rise in annual labor income. The organization estimates that the government, including federal, state, and municipal levels, will collect an additional BRL 37.7 billion as a result of increased consumption linked to the higher minimum wage.
