Brazil’s agribusiness has its best April in 10 years
Brazil's Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, lauded the latest data from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation's Center for Agribusiness Studies (FGV Agro), noting, "Brazilian agribusiness recorded its strongest April in a decade and its best four-month performance since 2018," in a post on his X social network profile on Saturday (Jun. 22).
In his tweet, Alckmin also pointed out that food and beverages achieved the highest growth since the beginning of this time series: 13.2 percent, with biofuels following with a 27.4 percent increase and textile products showing a 14.5 percent rise.
"The strengthening of our agro-industry is a commitment of President Lula, as it signifies adding value to our products, creating jobs and income, and reducing food insecurity," wrote the Vice President.
Data from FGV Agro indicate that in April 2024, agro-industrial production surged by 12.1 percent compared to the same month in 2023, marking the most substantial April growth since 2013.
“Unlike March, April 2024 had more working days than April 2023. This factor undoubtedly contributed to the positive result for the month,” the organization noted.
Compared to March 2024, the agro-industry also expanded by 0.8 percent when considering seasonal adjustments. Consequently, by April 2024, agro-industrial production had accumulated a 4.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, marking the best first four months for the agro-industry since 2018.
