In the next days, Brazil’s government should announce an increase in the values of the National School Meal Program (Pnae), National Secretary of Food and Nutritional Security Lilian Rahal said. The program provides for the transfer of federal funds to states and municipalities, based on their number of students.

In January this year, Minister of Education Camilo Santana said the government was considering increasing the funds which have not been raised for six years.

The details about the new values, however, have not been disclosed yet. Currently, the funds transferred by Pnae vary from BRL 0.32 per day (for each student in youth and adult education) to BRL 2 per day (for the full-time high school supporting program).
