Brazilian rider wins bronze at Paralympic Equestrian Championship

Brazilian dressage rider Rodolpho Riskalla won on Wednesday (Aug. 10) the bronze medal in the Paralympic Equestrian World Championship, in Hering, Denmark, in the individual technical competition Grade IV, the same event in which he won silver at the Tokyo Games last year. Riskalla rides Don Henrico, that is competing for the last time in Denmark. He still has two competitions ahead of him - freestyle and team - scheduled for Sunday (Aug. 14), the last day of the World Championship.

This is the third time that the 37-year-old rider from São Paulo has been on the podium at World Championships. In the last edition of the event, in 2018, in Tyron (USA), Riskalla won two silver medals, also with his horse Don Henrico. He used to compete in conventional equestrian events until 2015 when he contracted bacterial meningitis which resulted in the amputation of some parts of his body. He had his Paralympic debut in 2016. Riskalla competes since then in Grade IV events (riders with light impairments in one or two limbs, or with moderate visual impairment).
