Flamengo defeats Corinthians again and advances in Libertadores

Flamengo asserted the advantage of playing at home and defeated Corinthians 1-0, on Tuesday night (Aug. 9), at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Thus, it secured a spot in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores, and it will have to face the winner of the clash between Talleres (Argentina) and Vélez Sarsfield (Argentina), which won 3-2 in the first leg.

Since it had to reverse a two-goal deficit, Corinthians was not intimidated by the more than 68,000 red-black fans at the stadium and played well in the first half.

After the break, Corinthians gave the impression it would take charge of the match, creating good opportunities in the first minutes. However, in the 6th minute, Flamengo managed to score the first goal. Arrascaeta received the ball on his left side, got rid of Fagner and ran to the bottom line, from where he kicked the ball to forward Pedro who scored the goal. So, jersey number 21 became the top scorer of the competition with eight goals.
