Coach Tite names Brazil’s World Cup squad
The line-up of the team to represent Brazil in the World Cup in Qatar, starting on November 20, is now ready. The list with the 26 players who will seek the nation’s sixth title was unveiled by coach Tite on Monday (Nov. 7) at the auditorium of the country’s football confederation CBF, in Rio de Janeiro.
The seleção has nine members from the team that played in the last World Cup four years ago in Russia. Three of them (defender Thiago Silva, full-back Daniel Alves, and forward Neymar) still defended the country in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Thiago and Daniel, in turn, are on their way to their fourth career participation, having also represented Brazil in South Africa back in 2010. Fifteen athletes will be making their debut in the tournament.
All players are part of a previous list with 55 names that Tite submitted to FIFA on October 21. The Brazilian confederation and the coach chose not to officially disclose who was part of the list. An eventual change, only due to injury, can be made up to one day before the Brazilian debut, provided that the new athlete is among the 55 previously called.
The squad must convene next Monday (14) in Turin, Italy, to spend five days at the Juventus training center before traveling to Doha, Qatar. The World Cup debut will be on November 24 at 4 pm Brasília time at Lusail Stadium, against Serbia. On November 28 at 1 pm, the Brazilian team will face Switzerland at the 974 stadium. On December 2, Tite’s men are expected to return to Lusail to face Cameroon at 4 pm, which should bring their participation in Group G in the first round to an end.
