Brazil`s Rebeca Andrade wins gold in England
Rebeca Andrade has shown once more she is the biggest name in Brazilian gymnastics, nowadays. On Thursday (Oct. 3), she won the general individual title at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held in Liverpool (England).
To guarantee her victory, the Brazilian gymnast scored 56.899 points, with a highlight to the 15.166 points obtained in vault routine, a discipline in which she had already won gold medals in the last edition of the World Championships, in 2021 in Kitakyushu (Japan) and in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
After a great result in vault, the 23-year-old athlete had a good performance on the bars that gave her 13.800 points. The third apparatus was the beam, in which she scored 13.533. Then the Brazilian performed again the choreography of Favela Ball, reaching 14.400 points, and winning the world title.
After her victory, the gymnast said she was proud and happy: "This medal means that all my dedication, and the dedication of our multidisciplinary team, and of all the girls who train with me have worked out. We´ve worked very hard. I`m extremely proud and happy.”
The head of the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation Luciene Resende said Rebeca's victory is further proof that this sport is going through a special moment in Brazil: "Over the years we have won many medals in the World Championships. First, Brazil built a very good reputation in floor routine. In later years, we expanded the range, showing that Brazilians can be good on various apparatuses, such as vault, rings, and fixed bars. This World Cup in Liverpool shows that Brazil has reached another stage of growth in gymnastics.
After the gold in the individual general, Rebeca Andrade has the possibility to win three more medals in the Liverpool World Championship next weekend, when she will compete in the finals on bars, beam, and floor.
