Football squad to face England in women’s Apr. 6 Finalíssima unveiled
Coach Pia Sundhage has named the 26 players on the Brazilian team to play the Women’s Finalíssima against England on April 6 plus a friendly match against Germany five days later—the last before FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Two first-timers are on the list unveiled Monday (Mar. 20): goalkeeper Camila (Santos) and striker Aline (Ferroviária). Midfielder Duda Sampaio (Corinthians) is back on the squad after recovering from injury.
“We’d never been this close to the final list. As you can imagine, there will always be changes. We’ve made a few just now. We’ll discuss who will be in the World Cup in the last minutes. We have some new names, and I’m happy we’ll face two great opponents and have a chance to watch them,” the coach said during a presser this morning at the headquarters of Brazil’s football federation CBF in Rio.
Both matches will take place within the so-called FIFA window, the period reserved for friendly or official matches, April 3–11.
