A week after becoming the first Brazilian gymnast to stand on the podium of a Rhythmic World Cup individual competition, Bárbara Domingos made history again. On Sunday (Apr. 9), she won the Grand Prix of Thiais in France in the ribbon event. This is the first time a Brazilian gymnast won a medal in an event of this level.

Babi, as she is known, scored 31.100 points. Hungarian athlete Fanni Pigniczki (29.250 points) and French gymnast Helène Karbanov (29.000 points) completed the podium. Baby also participated in the final of the ball event, finishing in eighth place with a score of 26.100 points. In the overall individual, which considers the sum of the marks from the ribbon, ball, hoop and clubs events, Babi was also eighth, with a total score of 115.050 points.

Barbara's upcoming commitment is the Tashkent stage of the World Cup in Uzbekistan, beginning on Friday (14). Maria Eduarda Alexandre, a 15-year-old gymnast, will also represent Brazil and make her debut at this level of competition.

Heading to Paris

Brazil has never been on the Olympic podium in rhythmic gymnastics. In order to secure their spot in the team competition at the Paris Olympics in France, which will bring together 14 sets, Brazil will have to seek one of the five places in dispute at the World Championships, between August 23 and 27 this year, in Valencia, Spain. If unsuccessful, their last chance will be to win the competition at the Pan-American Championships, scheduled for either April or May 2024.
