Brazilian women's soccer team to face Germany today
The Brazilian women's soccer team will face the Germans today (Apr. 11) in Nuremberg, Germany. This is the last official game before the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. It is an important match to define the list of players selected for the World Cup, coach Pia Sundhage stated.
She considers the upcoming match against Germany, who currently holds the 2nd position in the FIFA ranking, as a crucial opportunity to further evaluate the adjustments made in the team's previous game against England. In that match, Brazil experienced a 4-2 loss on penalties following a 1-1 draw during regular play.
"I think we’ve handled the changes we made against England well. In the first half we used a lot of defense, but in the second half we changed the way we played and we were more offensive. Against Germany we hope to see something similar and that the players embrace the changes, because it is important to adjust the system and be more flexible before going to the World Cup," said the Swedish coach at a press conference on Monday (10).
The FIFA Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place from July 20 to August 20, in Australia and New Zealand. Brazil has been placed in Group F for the competition.
